The Matsés tribe specializes in using bows and arrows to hunt. Whereas other closely related tribes such as the Matis and Korubos use blowguns to hunt, the Matsés have become specialists in bow and arrow technology and their craftsmanship is among the best in the Amazon. In the not too distant past, the Matses are thought to have used blowguns to hunt rather than bows and arrows. Due to their need to defend themselves against outsiders, the Matses abandoned the use of blowguns completely and armed themselves with bows and arrows.
