Matsés man wearing ceremonial dress. The ceremonial dress is made by
splitting a vine and scraping it. The same vine is used to make baskets that
are traditionally woven by the men and given to their wives to carry
harvested crops. In addition, traditional Matses male dress consists of a
series of belts across the chest, stomach, and hips. The belt around the hip
is used to support the male organ. The belts are made out of palm leaves
and the chest and stomach belts are optional, with only the hip belt being
obligatory.
